Yoga for Pregnancy & Beyond

I'm not teaching pregnancy yoga anymore, but I'm leaving this information on my site to encourage visitors to find another teacher and practice yoga.
Please find other prenatal yoga teachers on the
Teachers page of the Brussels Yoga Co-op website (look for Kristen, Laia and Sophie).

Why practice prenatal yoga?

Yoga makes you feel good, no matter who you are.  The medical world, both traditional and alternative, recognizes the physical, mental and emotional benefits of yoga for people of all ages.  Your doctor may even suggest that you practice yoga during your pregnancy.  (In fact you should always check with your doctor to be sure that yoga practice is not contraindicated for you.)

Yoga is great for everyone, but why especially when you are pregnant?  The reasons are many; yoga can be of particular benefit on all levels:  physical, mental and emotional.

§      Yoga tones, relaxes and strengthens the body, preparing it for childbirth and the subsequent demanding weeks and months caring for your baby.
§      Yoga can help relieve common pregnancy-related complaints such as backache, weakening of the pelvic floor muscles, nausea, fatigue, indigestion, etc.
§       Awareness is all:  as you learn to move your body with awareness, you will learn to feel more comfortable with and accepting of the amazing changes that are taking place within you.
§       Simply being aware of these changes can put things into perspective.  For example, hormonal changes during pregnancy can result in the occasional emotions roller-coaster, but awareness of what is happening, in itself, can help alleviate the intensity.
§       Relaxing the body relaxes the mind.  You will learn how consciously to relax both body and mind, allowing deep rest and renewal.
§      Yoga class is your time for YOU.  Besides being pregnant, you may also be a busy wife, mother, carer, worker, businesswoman...  Practicing yoga gives you the opportunity to turn your focus inward, to your Self.
§       What you are doing now, for you, is also benefiting your baby.  A healthy, relaxed mother who knows how to care for herself is the best gift you can give your child.
§      Practicing yoga now will get you into the habit of nurturing yourself, something which new mothers all too often neglect.
§     Yoga class is also a great place to connect with other pregnant yoginis, share information and make new friends.

What some "graduates" have to say

"I just wanted to thank you and say I really enjoyed your class this evening.  I feel energised, more grounded and balanced after it.  I really found the support and well-being that I needed.  The group energy was lovely."

"I've really enjoyed our class, feel like it's given me lots of practical, easy-to-remember exercises and I always leave with a renewed sense of serenity."

"Thanks Claire for such wonderful pregnancy yoga classes throughout my pregnancy.  You are a very caring knowledgeable teacher and expertly combined your classes to be both invigorating and relaxing. Attending your classes was the only time I allowed myself to stop and focus and breathe, which I hope will help me during the delivery in three weeks:o)"
